Fake Viagras abound, NBI warns


The National Bureau of Investigation yesterday warned the public on the proliferation of counterfeit medicines in the local market following the seizure of fake Viagra and Norvasc from several drugstores in Metro Manila, Southern Luzon and Northern Luzon in separate operations.

Viagra and Norvasc are both Pfizer prescription drugs.

NBI Intellectual Property Rights Division Chief lawyer Jose Yap said the bureau operatives, armed with search warrants issued by Executive Judge Reynaldo Ros of the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 33, Executive Judge Socrates Erasmo of the San Pablo City Regional Trial Court Branch 30 and Judge Omar Viola of the Regional Trial Court Branch 57 in Angeles City, had conducted separate enforcement actions on Oct. 26, Nov. 14 and Nov. 27 against eight drugstores in Metro Manila, 10 drugstores in different areas in Southern Luzon particularly in the cities of Lucena, San Pablo and Lipa and in the town of Tiaong in Quezon Province, and five drugstores in Northern Luzon particularly in the cities of Cabanatuan and Olongapo and the town of Capas in Tarlac.
