Sale of counterfeit drugs rife in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD - According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), 40-50 percent of all medicines sold in Pakistan were counterfeit, which resulted in prolonged illness or death, said veteran columnist Dr Farrukh Saleem at a Seminar held here on Friday.He said in fact nearly 65 percent of goods being sold in Pakistan were counterfeit. More than 50 percent of all cigarettes sold in Pakistan were an imitation. The government, as a consequence, loses more than Rs 15 billion a year in revenue.
