Fake drugs with potentially lethal side-effects are flooding the market in Karachi and other parts of the country by the drug mafia, which allegedly works with doctors and chemists to supply them to patientsDr Syed Muhammad Shahid a general physician at the surgery ward of the Civil Hospital Karachi shed light to The News about the modus operandi of the ‘death merchants.’ He named drugs being prescribed today that have no therapeutic, such as the injection fortum administered to septicemia (severe injury) patients, tetanus toxide for tetanus patients, and many other tablets prescribed today. He said that some medicines are even approved by the Ministry of Health, but are not effective.
