Scam Alert: Health and medical scams flourish on the Internet
Every day, more people turn to the World Wide Web to conduct their own research on medical conditions and treatment. While the Web is full of valuable and detailed information, it is also a boiling stew of misinformation and outright lies. Health and medical scams and schemes are rampant.
To combat the growing amount of health fraud on the Internet, investigators are beginning to fight fire with fire. Beginning this week, the Federal Trade Commission and Food and Drug Administration launched an interesting fake Web site promising treatment and cures for diabetes to draw in consumers looking for information on this disease.
