South Carolina Woman Charged with the Theft of Pharmaceuticals

A South Carolina woman is accused of selling the painkillers she stole from the pharmacy where she worked.

Noni Anyanna Williams allegedly stole 8,000 hydrocone 10 pills, which are also known as Lortab, from the Rite Aid where she worked in Spartanburg, South Carolina, according to GoUpstate.com.

Police officials say that Williams used doctors’ Drug Enforcement Agency registration identification to gain access to the pills, which she subsequently distributed to two women and one man over the course of more than two years.

“That’s incredible,” Dr. Mark Fletcher, a dentist in Boiling Springs whose DEA number was used by Williams, according to arrest warrants, told the news source. “I can’t believe it.”

Williams is being charged with six violations of drug distribution laws and has been released on $6,000 bond, reports the news provider.

The theft of pharmaceuticals can lead to some serious health risks. Even if the thieves do not tamper with the drugs, the medication will likely not be stored and handled properly, which can impact its effectiveness.
