Delhi Chief Seeks Total Intolerance

Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit is working to develop capacity to fight fake drugs.

According to The Times of India, Dikshit said the Delhi government is strengthening the state drug control department based upon recommendations made by Mashelkar Committee in a seminar entitled “Measures to Combat Counterfeit Drugs.”

“I am concerned about the health of people… We will not leave any stone unturned to root out the problem,” Dikshit said speaking at the seminar.

The chief minister said that Drugs and Cosmetics Act should be enforced effectively to curb the illegal trade and chemists must ensure that their sources of supply were reliable.

Delhi health minister Kiran Walia suggested launching of a toll free number to receive public complaints on spurious drugs, and emphasized the need for adequate enforcement testing facilities.
