Gov. Bush signs bill weakening safeguards against fake drugs


Gov. Jeb Bush signed into law a sharply contested measure that relaxes paperwork rules aimed at stopping unscrupulous pharmacy wholesalers from selling fake or adulterated drugs.

The governor said the rules, due to take effect Saturday, could needlessly burden pharmaceutical warehouses and potentially cause shortages of medicine. He echoed arguments made by large wholesale drug firms and others who favored the bill and opposed the impending rules.
