Steamroller crushing fake drugs in China

Check out this unusual scene in China: A steamroller crushing thousands of boxes of prescription medicines. Why? Despite looking very real, these drugs are counterfeit and dangerous. Globally, the threat of fake medicine is very real. Some fake medicines have been found to contain toxic, deadly ingredients while others don’t contain enough active ingredients at all to do what the medicine is supposed to do. Yet if it looks real, how are patients supposed to know the difference? Fakes have been discovered across a variety of therapeutic categories including asthma, cancer, diabetes, etc. While today the problem is largely outside the U.S., the risk of more counterfeit drugs entering the U.S. could be heightened if our current closed, protected medicine supply chain is compromised by allowing medicine importation.
