Counterfeit Drugs in America 101: Workshop For Drug Safety A Great Success!

20130718_122043

In the last year, there were several cases of counterfeit medication entering the secure U.S drug supply chain via orders made by healthcare professionals. The safety dangers to patients are implicit, but the legal problems healthcare providers face in these cases are not.

On Thursday July 18th, the Partnership for Safe Medicines hosted Counterfeit Drugs in America 101, a tutorial for healthcare providers and the organizations that support and represent them. The goal of the meeting was to educate attendees about the patient safety downsides and legal aspects of exposing patients to counterfeit drugs, and how they can work with the Partnership to educate their members about the dangers.

The event’s speakers were Tom Kubic, a 30 year veteran of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, current President and CEO of the Pharmaceutical Security Institute and member of the board of directors of the Partnership for Safe Medicines, and Shabbir Imber Safdar, director of national outreach for the Partnership for Safe Medicines.

The workshop presentation is available for viewing on slideshare.
