Nigeria: NAFDAC Destroys N20b Fake Drug


The management of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it has,within the past six years, confiscated and destroyed fake and counterfeit drugs worth more than N20 billion.

The Director General of NAFDAC, Professor Dora Akunyili, disclosed this in Owerri while delivering the 2007 Odenigbo Lecture Series organised by the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province.
"In the past six years, NAFDAC has destroyed fake and counterfeit drugs about 114 times, while the market value of the destroyed drugs is worth more than $154.5 million or about N20 billion", Professor Akunyili said.
